A riddle: Scarcely was the father in this world when the son could be found sitting on the roof. What is it?
Els, I'd like you to refrain from answering before everyone else has had a chance; I'm sure you've already solved it!
[STUDENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS]
This is a reminder to all student Committee members that our first meeting will be tomorrow evening at 5:45 in the empty Transfiguration classroom on the second floor. Do please try to be punctual as your Head Boy and I would like the meeting to move along as quickly and smoothly as possible so that everyone has time to enjoy their Friday night. Bring some suggestions for student delegates as well as some goals you would like the Committee to accomplish this term (and in the long-term, if you'd like). I look forward to seeing you there.
[PRIVATE]
Student Committee Meeting, tomorrow, 5:45pm
Topics to cover: - Choosing student delegates - Common goals to accomplish
Oh god... I have a bad feeling about this.
[DELILAH]
Have you thought about bringing up your Brilliant Idea at the meeting tomorrow?

[RAMI, ELS]
Looks like we're together in this unity project business. I think we should meet in the near future to at least brainstorm.
[PRIVATE]
Is it a sign from the gods that Els and I are stuck doing this awful project together?

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of the new student members of the Committee. Hopefully, with more of us, our voices will be heard loud and clear. I look forward to working with you all.
[Private to Matt]
You're probably the last person I should be asking about this, but I need boy advice. I know, I know. There's a first time for everything.

I feel so numb. It's hard for me to bring myself to do anything other than lay in bed all day. I'm tired all the time. I have no motivation. This isn't the right attitude; I -- we can't give up now. Now we have to be more resilient, more hard-working. But just thinking about it exhausts me. And this... rut, whatever it is, scares me most of all.

I, as well as your Head Boy, are available for any students who wish to talk to someone. Any House, any year, any time. Please, feel free to contact me or Thaddeus, and we will be glad to sit down with you.
If any students have questions about the injured or the memorial services, we can direct your inquiries to the appropriate staff member and get you an answer as soon as possible.

I never thought I'd have to write something like that... it's so formal. It's so not me. I want to tell everyone it will be alright and that we'll catch whoever did this. But I can't promise anyone that. Not even myself.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I wish you all a safe return to the castle tomorrow.
[Private]
I fully plan on sitting in the Prefects' car tomorrow for the whole ride back to school, except when I have to do rounds. I don't want to have to speak to him. Or see him.
And I'm sure the feeling is entirely mutual.
I wonder who the new members of the Committee will be. I nominated Kiki and Molly.

Mum's been cooking all day. The house smells so good. I can't wait until everyone gets here -- this year's party is going to be even better than last year's party.
Happy New Year, everyone.

I've just eaten about my twentieth piece of Gram's pie and I feel like I want to explode, but I also feel like I want to eat more. Because her cooking is just that good. I love having Christmas at the Burrow.
I hope everyone had a lovely holiday.
[Els]
Thank you for the Christmas gift. I'm already a quarter of the way through -- it's wonderful. The letters are sad and scared and happy and lovely all at once. I sent a package for you. Did it arrive on time?
Happy Christmas.

As Kathryn Bradfurst, Muggle reporter, said, “[i]t’s about time! Ever since I heard about all of the magical cover-ups the media has been fed in recent years, I’ve been waiting to hear that it would stop for good! Natural disasters that weren’t so natural, and Sirius Black running around with a wand and not a gun like we were told... [T]he lies are appalling!”
Like she would have believed it if Minister Fudge came to pay her a visit to tell her that Sirius Black was actually a wizard with a wand running around trying to kill Muggles (which wasn't even true, anyway). What would she have done? Called the Muggle police and told them a raving lunatic was telling her about an insane mass murderer threatening people with a bit of wood.
The only reason she (and I'm assuming others) are up in arms about it now is because there's proof that there's a Magical World. Before the Revelations, they'd have as soon as branded someone a nutter and locked them up for trying to convince them of a completely separate world that they couldn't see.
Not to mention that the Muggles probably felt stupid for not even noticing an entire population before. And now they're getting all defensive that we've been putting them in danger. Wizards can do magic in the open now without having to worry about the Statute of Secrecy or being discovered. Sure, Voldemort would have "come out," eventually, but he was taken care of. Now there's no stopping it. If Bradfurst thought she was in danger before, well, I guess maybe she is deluding herself about the severity of the current situation.

I arrived home last night just in time for dinner. Dad picked Louis and me up from King's Cross and we Apparated (Louis, of course, went with Dad).
Coming home is always an experience. First, there's the blast of cold, salty ocean air that hits you as soon as you land just outside the gate. That, and the roar of the waves crashing on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff. The smell of salt is almost over-whelming at first, after spending so much time in the cold Scotland air surrounding Hogwarts. The sight of Shell Cottage -- the light of the fire and the lamps glowing inside the house, warm and welcoming, and you know that it's going to smell so delicious when you walk through the front door. And then you do, and it smells like fresh bread and something delicious roasting and my mum's French perfume and the faint scent of vanilla that's always lingered there ever since I can remember. And you're home.
Mum made a pretty big dinner, and Victoire came for the night too. I spent the day playing Quidditch with Louis and Dad. It's nice to sit in my own room, on my own bed, not worrying about homework. On Christmas we're going to my grandad's and gram's house with the rest of the family. I can't wait.
[Private to Els]
Are you enjoying home?

Mum and Dad sent me a birthday cake and the brown leather boots I've been lusting after for the past month or so. I've been wearing them every second I've not had to be in my uniform. Victoire gave me some new head bands and a pair of earrings she made herself (she's really talented with things like that). Louis, the little dear, brought me a huge jar of broomstick wood polish at breakfast, along with a little box of Honeyduke's chocolates.
Thanks to all my friends for a wonderful birthday.

I can't thank you enough for such a generous gift, Els. Really. Some of these spells are so complicated, but I'm up for the challenge. I could use a partner, though.
And yes on the walk. You name the time and place and I'll be there.

If I could only have you near to breathe a sigh or two, I would be happy just to hold the hands I love upon this winter night with you.I'm in a particularly festive mood today. Growing up, my mum and dad had this old Muggle record player, and we had a record of Christmas songs that my dad absolutely loved. My favourite song of all was called "Song for a Winter Night," and it's my favourite still to this day. My birthday is coming up. I'll finally be of age. But for some reason... I'm not really that excited about it.

Well. I can't say I'm surprised.
[Private]
I really had no suspicions as to who it was during this whole debacle, but now that the truth is out, I can't say I'm terribly shocked. Both Keira and Cyril have issues. I can't pretend to know what they are, or say that I understand, or any of those things -- but I know that Keira, at least, has been through a lot. I understand where she's coming from, really. I just... there's a better way to solve this than blowing Muggles to bits with the Dark Arts. There has to be.
But maybe I'm an idealist. Maybe I believe there is inherent good in most people. But I'm not stupid or naive. There is going to be violence and sadness and blood on everyone's hands, but I truly believe that the Muggle and Magical worlds can come to terms with each other. Some how.
I just hope Cyril and Keira know what they brought upon themselves. Sure, there are those who agree with them -- but those who don't are even more frightening (Kiki, for example).

"Inconclusive"? I can't say I'm surprised. I have a feeling that the wankers that made those posters are a lot of things, but easily intimidated they are not. If this was an attempt to scare them, it didn't work. Obviously. Veritaserum is the only real option here, and I don't support any decision involving that plan of action. Merlin, the school would probably riot. Burning effigies of me and Nott and the other Prefects.
I get it. I do. I understand why they're taking things out on us. They can't lash out at professors, and the Ministry twats are only here for the meetings before they dash off to their warm, comfy homes away from the sharp tongues of their constituents. Well, except Uncle Ron. He's a bit of a champion for us, with Neville. But all of the other ones are gits. I know people have it worse than we do. Being accused of betraying the student body is much less worse than losing your family to Muggles or, on the other end of the spectrum, being a Muggle brutally attacked by wizards. But it's rather annoying when I'm just trying to get to class and pass my NEWTS.
Enough about this. There's another thing that's been bothering me. Well, a couple of other things. Jack Vipond, for one. One minute he's an arse, the next he's cracking jokes. I don't know what happened to him; we used to be alright, I'd even say friends, thanks to Quidditch. Now he barely comes to practice anymore.
And then there's Els. I see him in class, of course, and we talk, but... we haven't really "hung out" since the masque. I know it's been crazy for everyone, but. I dunno. What if he decided I'm only good as a competitor and not a girlfriend? I'm over-reading this. Does this mean I like him?
